Session Prep

My goal is to capture how your family is right now, not to make you do anything stiff or unnatural. We will have fun!

Length of session: My family portrait sessions are short and sweet- I will be able to get a diverse and beautiful set of shots in less than an hour.

What to wear: The wardrobe you choose for you and your family should be comfortable and reflect who you are. I do not recommend matching, rather coordinating. If you would like more advice on what to wear, I am happy to consult with you directly.

Props: I do not use props in my sessions, but if you have something in mind, please let me know.

Your children: I will worry about your kids behavior, all you need to do is show up prepared to have fun and relax.

Since children don’t usually respond well to being told to smile and pose, it is best if we just give them some time to relax and be themselves. That way we can capture their most natural self. No need to worry if your child is running or active- I’ll be able to get some playful shots of them while they are having fun.

To take the family shots, I will direct the adults to simply “be” with the child/children, or hold the child and we will go from there.

To get the most out of your session, make sure that your little one has rested and has had adequate snacks and water. We can take breaks for snack and play, however I will probably still shoot during the breaks. Bring dry, non messy snacks so their little faces stay clean during the session.

Prepare the child for the session by telling them that a friend will be taking some photos of them, as it’s best not to surprise them.

Also, I encourage you to plan for this day to be a fun family experience. Instead of bribing them with a treat, make it a fun family day, and plan to go out for a treat as a family before or after the session. Not as a reward, but as part of the overall experience.

I’m really looking forward to capturing your family! Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions you might have. See you soon!
